Sept 20-22 - Rented a jackhammer and busted up the rest of my deck. Based on a brilliant idea from my lovely wife, dug a ditch and extended the gas line for the grill out to it's final location. Poured the first two bases for the pillars on the deck. Also did more fence work (no pics though).
First pic: taken at night, it shows the busted up deck pieces on top of the
four foot wall. It's not super critical to me to get them to the very bottom
- you might be able to pick out a few pieces in their final resting place on
the right in the back.
The corner posts. I'm pouring six concrete pads in the deck to support 14
posts that will hold a covering. This is the first.
Thursday's big job was extending out the gas line and prepping for the border
wall. Here's when the pipe was laid and some details of the pipe.

And after the second pad was poured and the pipe had been buried.
Friday, I shall remove the forms and build the border wall. Then I have a lot of block to move so Saturday I can get my soil and sod delivered!
UPDATE: Saturday Sept 24th, Jill surprised me big time with my birthday gift
- about 8 or so of our friends showed up at 9:00 to help throughout the day!!
They
started by many of them moving all those blocks out of the driveway while my
friend Tim helped me on the deck. Meanwhile, two ladies were inside cleaning
- that was SO helpful since I've been working every night until dark and Jill
is on crutches. Then ten yards of soil was delivered and they worked real hard
getting that in. All in all, it put me over a month ahead of schedule. Couldn't
get sod delivered - it was too late. Here are some pictures.

Two pictures of my most unusually shaped deck :)

Since then, I've been working on the fence. I have nearly the entire south fence done. I only get about two hours of work done after work before it's too dark to work anymore. This coming weekend I hope to get the sod in and the thousand plus flower bulbs in my garage planted.
UPDATE: November 2005. Pretty much finished the fence now - Added two of the four gates. All that's left is to add the other two gates, top off the posts and seal it. Sod went in nice - although dang that stuff is heavy. It's staying pretty wet, unfortunately, so I hope it survives. Still need to get those darned bulbs put in. Did strip out the garden dead stuff.
