Fall 2006

Here's an update from the summer work. I travelled a lot this summer, so didn't quite get as much done as I wanted to. Plus, finances prevented me from completing some of my goals. Next year!

The front: pretty much finished the front. Here's how the two sides look as of now:

The herb garden. Other than some battles with slugs in the southeast garden (which wiped out the pepper plants), the other three gardens did wonderful this summer. We've really enjoyed fresh herbs in the kitchen!

The main garden. It did fairly well. We learned not to plant seeds from the prior year :( Our tomatoes did spectacularly. We got lots of beans, peas and onions too. From the fruit tree area, we harvested some blueberries and strawberries. Our fig tree produced three figs. Not bad for the first few months of life!

In September, I finished building most of our fence (just have 3 small boards and the toppers left) and then stained it. I really like how our back "view" gate turned out.

The patio. We're going to finish the patio next summer. For now, I've been working on laying everything out, pouring the concrete pads for the overhead cover and next weekend I'll lay the electric line for the waterfall. The waterfall will go against the fence (where that extra support is) behind the round eating area - which is currently storage for the patio blocks.

The only other thing is a series of steps along the sides of the fruit tree area - I'm working on those now.
